Musical Youth on stage in 1983

LYRICS :

This generation
Rules the nation
With version

Music happen to be the food of love
Sounds to really make you rub and scrub

I say Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a good burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

It was a cool and lovely breezy afternoon
(How does it feel when you’ve got no food)
You could feel it ’cause it was the month of June
(How does it feel when you’ve got no food)
So I left my gate and went out for a walk
(How does it feel when you’ve got no food)
As I pass the dreadlocks’ camp I heard them say
(How does it feel when you’ve got no food)

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a good burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

So I stopped to find out what was going on
(How does it feel when you’ve got no food)
‘Cause the spirit of Jah, you know he leads you on
(How does it feel when you’ve got no food)
There was a ring of dreads and a session was there in swing
(How does it feel when you’ve got no food)
You could feel the chill as I seen and heard them say
(How does it feel when you’ve got no food)

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a good burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

‘Cause me say listen to the drummer, me say listen to the bass
Give me little music make me wind up me waist
Me say listen to the drummer, me say listen to the bass
Give me little music make me wind up me waist, I say

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a good burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

You play it on the radio, a so me say, we a go hear it on the stereo
A so me know you a go play it on the disco
A so me say we a go hear it on the stereo

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a good burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

I say east, say west, say north and south (on the left hand side)
This is gonna make us jump and shout (on the left hand side)

“Pass the Dutchie” It was a cover version of the song “Pass the Kouchie” by The Mighty Diamonds, written by Leroy Sibbles and Jackie Mittoo. The song was changed from “Kouchie,” a slang term for a cannabis smoking pipe, to “Dutchie” due to the age of the artists and their target audience. A “Dutchie” was slang for the cooking pot used by poor Jamaicans to prepare stews and rice. More recently the term “dutchie” refers to marijuana rolled in a cigar paper.

  15. kentuckymonkeys Says:

man your right a dutch is just a type of blunt its got tobacco leaf wrapped on the outside

  16. 98snakeeater Says:

    bananaboy is correct

dutchie = pot of food (listen to the chorus line closely: “how does it feel when you got no food?”)

    Kutchie = spliff/joint/etc.

This was just a politically correct version of the old Mighty Diamonds song “Pass the Kutchie” which wasn’t allowed to play on the air for obvious reasons….

  17. saz4558 Says:

Does it really matter, its a chooooooooon……..

  18. bananaboyu13 Says:

  21. ProfessionalWeirdo Says:

May i ask where you are from?

  22. bananaboyu13 Says:

    it aint

  23. ProfessionalWeirdo Says:

wrong, this version is actually about weed….

    review your sources

  24. bananaboyu13 Says:

it aint, a dutchie is a cooking pot, that u cook a stew in. the other version, called pass the kutchie, is about passin weed.

  25. Sweettweety666 Says:

Peoples find in “not done” that these yung kits sings aboud a “Dutchie”…..
So the record company told them that is was a kind of instrumend that passt trought……
    yeah righ… ;-)
And i am proud, as a Dutch woman, that the call it a “Dutchie”… ;-)
