Organic Food Labeling: How To Tell If Packaged Food Is Organic Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish organic food by its packaging. Fresh produce is easier…it either is or isn’t organically grown. But packaged foods are trickier. Here’s what you need to know about organic food labels: * Look for the USDA certified organic seal. This means at least 95% of the ingredients are organic. * If you see a label that says 70% organic, that means that 70% of the ingredients are organic. * If the product has less than 70% organic ingredients, it can’t feature an organic label, so you have to read the ingredients on the package. Don’t be fooled by products that you think are organic because their names or packaging look like they are.

Lauren Chattman from Pillsbury shows how to make this extra special chocolate pecan pie. Recipe: How to make chocolate pecan pie 1. Heat oven to 325°F. Place pie crust in 9-inch pie pan as directed on package for one-crust filled pie. 2. Tuck the edge of the crust underneath all the way around. Use a fork to make a herringbone design in the crust. Do this by pressing the fork into the crust at adjacent diagonals all the way around. 3. In a large bowl, combine corn syrup, sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs; beat well. Reserve 2 tablespoons chocolate chips for topping. Stir in remaining chocolate chips and 1 1/2 cups pecans. Spread evenly in crust-lined pan. 4. Bake at 325°F. for 55 to 60 minutes or until deep golden brown and filling is set. Cool 1 hour or until completely cooled. 5. Line cookie sheet with waxed paper. In small microwave-safe bowl, melt reserved 2 tablespoons chocolate chips in microwave oven on MEDIUM for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until melted; stir. 6. Dip each of 10 pecan halves in chocolate. Place on waxed paper-lined cookie sheet. Refrigerate 15 to 20 minutes or until chocolate is set. 7. Garnish pie with whipped cream and chocolate-dipped pecans. All we know is it’s delicious and easy to make, if you follow the recipe from Pillsbury’s Lauren Chattman. How to make monkey bread 1. Heat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease 12-cup fluted tube pan with shortening or cooking spray. In large food-storage plastic bag, mix sugar and cinnamon. 2. Separate dough into 16 biscuits; cut each into quarters. Shake in bag to coat. Arrange in pan, adding walnuts and raisins among the biscuit pieces. 3. In small bowl, mix brown sugar and butter; pour over biscuit pieces. 4. Bake 28 to 32 minutes or until golden brown and no longer doughy in center. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn upside down onto serving plate; pull apart to serve. Serve warm. Yet too often, polite guests are offering their admiration while choking on a piece of meat with the consistency of a wallet. Scott Cutaneo, who trained with the greats - Daniel Boulud, Alain Ducasse and Michel Guerard - is the chef-proprietor of the four-diamond (AAA) Le Petit Chateau in Tony Bernardsville, NJ Here’s his simple recipe for how to roast a turkey. Step-by-step guide to roasting turkey: 1. Add onions, celery and carrots to bottom of roasting pan, and then sprinkle a few sprigs of thyme over the vegetables. (You could put a rack on the bottom of the turkey, but we like to use different vegetable and herbal aromatics as a base for the turkey. It also adds flavor to the broth that is made by adding water to produce a great sauce or jus.) 2. Place the turkey on top of the vegetables. 3. Truss the turkey by wrapping the string around the back, crisscrossing and wrapping it twice around the legs, and then tying it under the neck. 4. Tuck the wings under the body of the turkey. (Trussing and tucking in the wings keeps everything tight to the body of the bird, which produces a more evenly cooked bird.) 5. Brush the turkey with the oil and butter mix. No more, now that we’ve seen how easy it is to make chicken pot pie, with a little help from our friend, Pillsbury’s Lauren Chattman. Recipe: How to make easy chicken pot pie 1. Heat oven to 425°F. Fit pie crust into 9-inch glass pie plate. 2. In 2-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion; cook and stir 2 minutes or until tender. Stir in flour, salt and pepper until well blended. Cook 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly. 3. Gradually stir in chicken broth and milk, cooking and stirring until bubbly and thickened. Stir in chicken and thawed mixed vegetables. Remove from heat. Spoon chicken mixture into crust-lined pie plate. 4. Top with second crust; seal edge and flute. Cut slits in several places in top crust. 5. Cover crust edge with 2- to 3-inch-wide strips of foil to prevent excessive browning; remove foil during last 15 minutes of baking. 6. Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Recipe: How to make ham and broccoli quiche 1. Heat oven to 375°F, and roll out refrigerated pie crust. Allow to soften for 15 minutes for pliability. 2. Fit pie crust into 9-inch glass pie pan. Fold under the pie edge that is hanging over the plate. 3. Crimp the edges: two fingers on the inside, one on the outside, and push on the edge of the pie plate with the outside finger. 4. Make the filling: Layer ham, cheese and thawed broccoli in pie crust-lined pan. In medium bowl, beat all remaining ingredients until well blended. Pour over broccoli. 5. Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Cut into wedges. Pillsbury’s ham and broccoli quiche recipe serves six.
